The very heart of the city is generally considered to be Merdeka Square, and from this point you should begin your exploration of the city. Due to the high temperatures during the day and year round, the best time to explore the city on foot is during the evenings, as it can be pleasantly cooler. Places worth seeing include the modern business centre and the famous twin towers, which have a number of restaurants and offers spectacular views of the city. The national mosque, the railway station and the busy streets of Chinatown or Little India are also worth an afternoon walk.

Here you can find some luxuriant gardens and impressive architectural gems such as the national monument and the Malaysian parliament. The national museum is also located in the green belt.
