Kuala Lumpur is one of the most impressive cities in Asia;
modern, sophisticated and very affordable. From some of the tallest
buildings in the world, you can peer down to the narrow streets of
Chinatown and see the entire city in all its splendor. A breath
taking place, Kuala Lumpur is also a paradise for shoppers, and it
also has more than its fair share of luxury hotels and plenty of
cultural diversity to keep you interested. If you want to see
exciting and busy street markets, beautiful gardens and magnificent
temples as well as the famous Petronas Twin Towers, a holiday to
Malaysia’s capital will not disappoint.
The only thing that puts a lot of people off Kuala Lumpur is the
climate. All year round, the city is hot and humid, and it can rain
at any time. However, this also makes the city a year round
destination. If you are interested in seeing any of the popular
annual festivals that the city has to offer, however, then you may
want to plan your itinerary accordingly.
One of the most popular reasons to visit Kuala Lumpur is for its
shopping opportunities. With world class shopping malls and
fascinating street markets, there is plenty to spend your money on.
Prices are often very reasonable too. Kuala Lumpur is also a great
place for a family holiday, with plenty of attractions for children
as well. Others will undoubtedly enjoy the exotic cuisine of
Malaysia in its many luxurious and world famous restaurants. Many
people visit Kuala Lumpur en-route to Australia or New Zealand as
well, since it is a convenient and good value stopover.
Somewhat of a showpiece capital, Kuala Lumpur is a place that boasts
the steadily increasing prosperity of Malaysia. The city is also
quite new, having been founded in the 1850s. However, the city also
has a quaint colonial quarter with well preserved buildings of a
bygone era, making the city of diverse blend of the old and the new.
The very heart of the city is generally considered to be Merdeka
Square, and from this point you should begin your exploration of the
city. Due to the high temperatures during the day and year round,
the best time to explore the city on foot is during the evenings, as
it can be pleasantly cooler. Places worth seeing include the modern
business centre and the famous twin towers, which have a number of
restaurants and offers spectacular views of the city. The national
mosque, the railway station and the busy streets of Chinatown or
Little India are also worth an afternoon walk.
Kuala Lumpur is a very busy and frenetic city, so after a day of
exploring, you may want to have a break from it all. In this case, a
visit to the city’s beautiful green belt is well worth it. Here you
can find some luxuriant gardens and impressive architectural gems
such as the national monument and the Malaysian parliament. The
national museum is also located in the green belt. |
